An introvert walks into a coffee shop
Hello and welcome to May I spoon you?! I hope this week finds you well and as always thank you for sharing this space with me.
I did something that I only see happen on television and in movies, I went to a coffee house to write. Full transparency, I took my dog to the groomers. His groomer is about 45 minutes away from where we live. My dog loves his groomer and they always do a fantastic job so I continue to take him even if it means driving/running errands around the city for 2-3 hours. This week, I found myself with very little money in my bank account, therefore shopping was out of the question. However, since the city has fully opened back up I decided to write this week’s newsletter in a coffee shop. This was a big deal for me because first, I don’t drink anything other than Starbucks. Not because I am loyal to Starbucks but because that is the closest coffee place to my apartment. Second, I have a hard time concentrating at the coffee shop because I love to people watch. I love looking at what people are wearing/eating/drinking. I like to ever so not subtly walk past them in order to take in their pens, notebooks, and knickknacks that they have nearby. All this is to say that I am not a good coffee house patron. I prefer to give up my space rather than take it up to let the real busy bees get to work.
Side note: baristas are AHMAZING, it is impressive how they can keep up and do three things at once all while dealing with the morning rush (and the not-so-patient people).
I have never been a get outside and work kind of person. Even in college I rarely used the library to study. If I did have to go inside a library I would use it to hide in a corner and eat. Again, I would just sit there and people watch. I was mostly fascinated by the students who used flashcards as study guides. I mean I had heard of them but truly I thought they were a myth. Also, the amount of highlighting some people did on their textbooks is shocking. I on the other hand preferred to be in my dorm room. I studied, read, highlighted, and attempted to create flashcards in my bedroom.
I am a stay at home always type of person. I love my home. I love how cozy all of my apartments have been. If I had the money, I would bring any services to be done at home. One time, I did get my eyelashes done at home. In my defense, she was a friend who was starting as a lash artist.
No this is not being pretentious, it is the manner in which I can best guard my body and my physical health. Being at home not only makes me feel safe but also provides a sense of security. However, being home 24/7 during the pandemic did remind me that life should not be taken for granted. Nor should I take for granted the things the great outdoors has to offer. I started walking in the mornings and surprisingly it has been great. I do hope to do a little more outside of my home. Baby steps.
This week
I started reading Brian Moylan’s book. Oh boy is it good! The juicy gossip is amazing. So far, I am loving former housewives’ willingness to speak to Brian (honestly not at all surprising which ones are talking). Also, follow Brian on Instagram, he is sharing some tidbits on his stories/feed. For example, he snuck into BravoCon!
Also, this week I came across this article on The Strategist UK. Rio Viera-Newton created a Google Doc detailing her skincare routine and the products that she uses. This combines three of my favorite things: UK beauty products, skincare routines, and Google Docs. I was unable to find the actual doc. However, this gave me an idea. I have been wanting to share my journey with skincare and this gave me the drive to do it. Stay tuned!
Rio also wrote a book, which if you know me you know I AM purchasing.
Now, May I spoon you?
My favorite ASMR is back with a new video. I usually go straight to her videos but this time her video caption caught my attention.
She mentioned that she needed time to take care of herself. She wrote that she is “not 100% right now”. It does not come as a shock as most of us are not OK. While this does not apply to Jocie (as I have always found her to be a transparent Youtuber and is always upfront with her audience) I wanted to remind everyone that what you see on social media is not always as it is made out to be. Please remind yourself that social media is a second life and that even though people are smiling and posting how much fun they are having, they often struggle just as much as those of us that are not as active. Please don’t ever believe that you need to keep up with your favorite Instagrammer/Youtuber/Tiktoker. You are perfect just the way you are!
Sending you all air hugs and thanks for sharing this space with me. Be safe!
