My version of hot girl summer
Welcome to a tiny version of May I spoon you?! I hope this week finds you well and thank you for sharing this space with me.
The rising temperatures in southern NM remind me that summer is fast approaching. While it is customary to make resolutions on New Year's eve, in 2021 I have decided to make them before summer hits. I’ve been working since the pandemic hit in March of 2020. At that time, I was working on a graduate course and working full time. At night, I was trying to figure out how I was going to teach my kids online. Thankfully, the semester ended fairly seamlessly but work for me had just begun. I was asked to be part of a curriculum building team for my district and I spent most of my summer doing that and the rest planning for the new school year. This along with professional development workshops and conferences had me working most of the summer from my kitchen table. The argument that teachers get the summers off is total bullshit.
Not. This. Summer. This year, I plan to take some much-needed self-care and for that, I decided to write my Summer 2021 resolutions:
Wake up early even if that means I’ll later jump back into bed
Get outside more, how this will occur I’m not sure yet but I’m working on a game plan
Eat fresh - let’s be honest, mostly fruits
Write, read, write, repeat
These are just goals. I made a promise to myself that I will not stress if these are not met by the end of the summer.
It’s not a matter of wanting to do this but rather knowing that I have to do it. The return to in-person learning has taken a toll on my body. I blame the abruptness of our return to school in early April, which did not leave much time for my body to adjust to a busy schedule. I am exhausted and mostly because I know the end of the school year is near. Do you have any summer 2021 goals?
Today is Mother’s Day in Mexico. Felicidades a todas las mamás. Especially my mom, who will go full-on mama bear when they mess with her cub.
Once again, thank you for you sharing this space with me. Stay safe!
